It might be that your Berkeley DB on stable is too old. I am using
Andreas Metzler's package for woody by putting the following in my
/etc/apt/sources.list:
deb
http://www.logic.univie.ac.at/~ametzler/debian/exim4manpages/ woody/
# for exim-tls
deb
http://www.logic.univie.ac.at/~ametzler/debian/gnutls/ woody/
