The 3.x series of exim is basically obsolete - 4.x has been out for more
than 2 years now.

So basically this is an amavis fault - I doubt you are going to find a
great deal of expertise on this on this list.

Personally I'd recommend you updating your exim version to current
(4.30/4.31 - the reason for saying the earlier one is that rpms are not
out yet for 4.31 - although I may build a set later today). Use an exim
version built with exiscan and use that method to hook into ClamAV.

[There are very very few references to Amavis on recent (last year)
exim-ysers posts. I don't know if this indicates that it is not widely
used, or possibly it "just works"]
