Look at the Exim's logfiles. The solution is right there!!
Seriously though, do you know where they exist?
In my case..
exim -bP log_file_path
log_file_path = /var/log/exim/%s.%D.log
So I would look at /var/log/exim/panic.20040331.log, but in your case
it may be something else, but with a name beginning with 'panic'.
