I think that would be quite hard to implement in Squirrelmail unless it
runs as root :)
Rather, I store all the users' vacation data in one directory, e.g.
/vacation/username. Exim then does a check on whether
/vacation/$local_part exists and if it does, sends an auto-reply.
I gave Squirrelmail permission to write into /vacation, and using one of
the numerous vacation plugins available, I customized it to read/write
into the /vacation directory.
