Thank you. Yes. I read something and got the wrong end of the stick.
Alas! There are some sides which deal with this option, for example:

A timeout option would be very usefull. If my virscanner runs into an
endless loop (due to a bug) the patched Exim sleeps forever. The patched
Exim should receive a SIG_ALRM after a defined time, I think. (We use
NetBSD 1.6.1 and Exim 4.24 + exiscan ACL patch.)
Anybody else who have or had similar difficulties?
