Why don't you upgrade to Exim-4.30 ?? Many people on this list don't
speak 3.x anymore as it's considered obsolete.

Exim as root ;)
Since you are the lead developer, why not change this stuff to recent
versions? For example, to do SMTP auth, this link will give you some
better insight.
