That is why they have an entry at rfc ignorant...

However, (and I really don't know) it is possible that the only valid
regular user mail uses .net instead of .com addresses??

att.com is net is not listed and does accept them.

With a former company that I worked for, their use of .net was only
internal. Any mail being sent out used .com version of the domain. The
hostnames using .net entries didn't even have dns entries on the outside.
