We reject viruses at SMTP time. In fact, we no longer automatically
bounce anything once it's been accepted: rejections are all done at
SMTP time. If in doubt, we freeze an item for postmaster inspection,
but under normal conditions that only happens occasionally.

Me neither, not automatically, anyway; but anything that gets accepted
and frozen will in the majority of cases either be passed for delivery
or discarded as a result of postmaster inspection. (And/or a report
sent manually to an appropriate complaints address).

It's very rare in practice that we see anything that would make us
want to contact the (purported) sender.
