As far as I can tell looking through the source code, you are right. Unless
someone offers me proof otherwise, I think I will pass on that the problem
isn't with our server.
Thanks again to all who responded.

It's entirely possible - and since we don't know the headers, we can't be
sure. Exim does support both it's internal quota checking, and supports
actual system user quotas as well, but I never knew that Exim sent a
bounceback email informing senders that a user was over quota. All I'm
aware of is quota_warn_message which is sent to the local system user when
their quota hits their configured threshold.

What version of Exim are you running, and what OS/distribution? Is it
customized/modified in any way?
Eli.

Subject: [Exim] Email Error Message
Can Exim send out the message "User mailbox exceeds allowed size"? I have
checked all docs, ran grep on all files in the source, and can not find
anything that will reply with this error.
I have a key person who can not get email from a business associate, and the
associate is getting back this message. I find nothing in my logs
indicating that we rejected any email from this person, nor can I seem to
get the business associate to send me a COMPLETE copy of the returned email
he got so I can track down where it actually came from.
So, I just need to know, is it even possible for Exim to send this error
message back. (For further clarification, I have included the entire
message that the business associate sent me for diagnosis purposes). I
guess what I am after is either someone telling me that Exim can do this to
I can keep looking, or someone telling me that it isn't possible so I can
send the error back to the business associate's email provider.
Thanks in advance for your help.

{{Note the addition of mail. to the domain for the email address.
This was NOT on the original email, but mail.mydomain.com IS my email
server's name}}

(and then the original message that associate sent follows here. Clipped
out, contains no clues)
