It doesn't try to deliver it, it freezes it for your attention because
there is no sender to whom it can return it. However, if you have set
auto_thaw, then Exim will try to deliver it again later. My guess is that
you have set auto_thaw.

If you want it to chuck such failures immediately, set

ignore_bounce_errors_after = 0s

Thank you. I'll use this as an excuse to say:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all on exim-users. Thanks for
your support over the past year and previously (some have been here a
looong time).

I'll be checking email sporadically over the holiday, but between
January 5th and January 30th I'll only be looking while I'm at
Linux.Conf.au and NOT while I'm on vacation. If there are any
emergencies, I'm sure there are now enough experienced people on this
list who can cope.
