[Exim] ident protocol timeout

Hi,

   I am using exim 4.20 and am trying to reduce the timeout that the ident
protocol waits for a response back from a another MTA. It seems it waits 30
seconds and then lets session complete.
Someone told me this is the default and it is built into the exim code to do
that. Is this true?
I put the following option into the configure file " rfc1413_query_timeout =
2s" but this no effect.
Can anyone please help me I do not know what to do next.         Thansk JK
