Actually, if you're going to be pedantic, then RFC282{1,2} *aren't* the
current standards. They're `Proposed Standards', but have not been
formally adopted (see
<URL:http://www.rfc-editor.org/categories/rfc-proposed.html>).

As per <URL:http://www.rfc-editor.org/categories/rfc-standard.html>, the
current `Standards' are STD0010 (RFC0821 `Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol') and STD0011 (RFC0822 `Standard for the format of ARPA
Internet text messages').

The publishing of RFC282{1,2} may have caused 82{1,2} to be marked as
obsoleted, but it *hasn't* (yet) changed their status as Standards.
