Thanks for the reply, but we are just movign away from a mailman based lists system - we don't like it! I would prefer to keep it inside the MTA.
We also specifically want the reply-to set to the group - this is one of the improvements we have implemented (it's only for small internal groups of no more than 25 people).
If anyone knows of a way of preserving the headers (can be a slightly 'quirky' one), then please let me know!

Have you tried using mailing list software?
They make managing groups easier as well as permissions and deal with the
proper headers etc... rather than having the MTA do it.
There are some specific Exim mailing list packages and long time available
ones like Majordomo and mailman.
BTW.. Many will point out that having the Reply-To set to the group/list
is not a good idea.
