That is for the new "management", whatever that turns out to be, to
decide. Certainly it's a possibility.

It is probably no longer the case now, but back in 1995 there was much
more chance of finding a C compiler on a random Unix system than a C++
compiler.

I've never used C++ (despite having known Bjarne Stroustrup in the days
when he was wrestling with a simulation language that didn't quite do
what he wanted - which caused him to invent C++. Yes, C++ is another
widely used thing that has a Cambridge connection. And of course C
itself was derived from BCPL. Steve Bourne was here, too.)

Anyway, I'm probably getting to be too old a dog to learn too many new
tricks at this stage.
