Argh! Can you send me some of the output generated by exim?
Particularly in debug mode on both the client and the server.

tls related config bits from the server might also be useful. Or the
whole server config file.

Clearly GNUTLS is capable of sending certificates, as I've seen it
happen when talking to sendmail server, and clearly exim4 is requesting
that clients send them, as I've seen mozilla-based clients send them
when talking to the exim server. So perhaps there's just some
non-obvious configuration change that needs to be made on the server.
