what do you get if you try to run that script (providing neccessary
environment, of course) by hand? what do you get if you turn on
return_fail_output (and arrange it so that there actually _is_ a
return message)? what do you get if you add some more verbosity to
the die() calls in vacation.pl? what do you get if you turn on
debugging in vacation.pl?

what have you done so far?
