[Exim] trusted_users expansion

I would like to put my trusted users in a file:

trusted_users = /dir/file seems not to work
and there is some discussion in the archives that
indicate that no expansion is done on the
trusted_users list, although the mail was
talking about version 3.

Is this still the case or am I just doing it wrong?
