First of all, there is no financial reason for the people that sell
these lists to remove anyone. There is lots of evidence to suggest that a
lot of these lists are simply made up: just pre-pend a list of a few
thousand well known local-parts to a list of a few thousand well known
domains, and presto, instant mailing list.
Second, as someone has already mentioned, how do they know the address
is no good? Does some joe blow selling viagra from his basement even
care? He'll just use some mass-mail software which takes the 10 million
addresses he bought, and pump through them. If he is lucky, he might
make his way through a few million before he is shutdown.
