unless japplications.net is a remote machine then do not use remote_smtp.
As has been stated before, exim by default will not function as UID 0
(root). Your safest bet is to create a normal user and add a line to your
aliases file like:
root: dan
Or you can find the never_users config line and take root out of it. But
that is not as safe. Local delivery is probably the best transport here.
