That alone doesn't mean it's not patented (somewhere). The whole idea
of a patent is to allow you to talk about your idea freely without
worrying about someone making a lot of money off it and you not being
able to force them to pay you royalties for the use of your idea.

(not that I think patents have much merit any more, and especially not
for software where many of the patents in jurisdictions where this has
been allowed have been for "obvious" things and or have been made on
prior art, but in both cases the patent authority failed to understand
these issues sufficiently)
