Could you show us where you read that, so it can be fixed? This is
broken.
Quoting gcc(1)

/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.1/lib/libdb.a is no directory.
You want to use either
DBMLIB=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.1/lib/libdb.a
for static linking or
DBMLIB=-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.1/lib -ldb
for dynamic linking.
