Try running spamassassin as spamd/spamc -- which should cut down the
overhead quite a bit

you can either send messages to it with a .forward, as a
transport/router or at localscan using sa-exim.sourceforge.net

that might not cut resource needs down enough though, and you might
just have to upgrade
