Which book? In the reference manual, "port" is listed for the smtp
transport on page 213, in section 29.3, chapter 29, "The smtp transport".
The index has two entries for "port option", the second of which takes
you to page 213.

If you use the HTML version of the manual, in the "option index" there
are two entries for "port". The first takes you to the iplookup router;
the second takes you to the smtp transport.

In the Exim 4 book, the index has an entry "ports, for outgoing
connections" which takes you to page 172, where the port option is
described.

I don't think there is much more I can do to make the documentation for
this option findable.

The "driver" option should always come first, because each driver has
different options. Until Exim knows which driver it is dealing with, it
will only recognize the generic options that are available for all
drivers.
