What makes you say that? Excepting the -d2 those are both valid in exim 4.

By munging the domains you haven't given us any info to help you determine
what the problem is.
That having been said what does the results of a SMTP session using
'exim -d -bh 127.0.0.1' with root@??? as RCPT tell you? How about
an 'exim -d -bt root@???'?
