Hey Andy,

    Thanks for the quick reply. I was being an idiot (DOH!). I was updating the
wrong exim config file for the relay. <feeling pretty stupid right now>. All
is ok now - thanks.


However, in answer to your question as to how the mail was getting there - a
Perl cgi generates the mail message using the Sendmail.pm Perl module. via a
TCP/IP-SMTP connection to exim.

For anyone to be able to help you, you need to post some more
information. How do you programmatically send mail from your
webserver? Using local SMTP, submitting directly to exim, or via the
system mail/mailx application, etc.

The webserver will be unable to set the envelope-from address as long
as the account it runs under is not a trusted exim user. This may be
a reason for the authentication required error. Please post at least
a few lines from your exim MAIN and REJECT logs that show the error
message.
