Try:
    deny    local_parts = \N^.*[\\@%!/|]\N : ^\\.
or
    deny    local_parts = ^.*[\\\\@%!/|] : ^\\.


Since it's expanded before use, it'll turn into this after expansion:
    ^.*[\\@%!/|] : ^\.
yours turns into:
    ^.*[\@%!/|] : ^\.
