That text is not part of eximon. I suspect that it is coming from some X
library that eximon is using.

It does look like a font problem. You are using quite an old version of
eximon, but actually, it hasn't changed very much, as far as I can
remember. The only way I can think of debugging would be to re-compile
eximon with debugging prints added to exim_monitor/em_main.c in order to
find out which call to the X library is provoking the error.
