This is not an exim error, deliver (from the Cyrus IMAPd distribution) is not
working properly.
Check your Cyrus IMAPd configuration:

- does the lmtpd socket (defined as lmtpsocket: /var/imap/socket/lmtp in imapd.conf) exist?
- is lmtpd running?
