I finally upgraded my mail mail server from exim 4.10 to 4.14, and I'm
seeing this:

2003-04-22 11:24:16 1982RE-00051l-Au H=(lists.zaurus.com) [66.180.235.233]:5518
7 F=<zaurus-software-bounces@???> rejected after DATA: domain miss
ing or malformed: failing address in "Sender" header is: zaurus-software-bounce
s@'lists.zaurus.com'

In this header:
Sender: zaurus-software-bounces@'lists.zaurus.com'

Are the single quotes really invalid?
(I _think_ exim 4.10 used to allow them)
