Subject: [Exim] Exim 4.10 / Fetchmail rejected
I posted this this back on April 10'th but haven't had anyone respond.
I'll try one more time.

I think I know the answer to this one but I would like to bounce it off
the list.

I'm running EXIM 4.10 / Spamassassin / Fetchmail under SCO OpenServer
5.0.6. I'm on a cable modem with dynamic IP. My domain name is
registered but is only accessible via a dialup ppp connection which is
rarely used. All email is downloaded from an isp using fetchmail.

Yesterday I received the attached e-mail in my in-box again then again
and again ...

Looking at the reject log I saw:

Here's what I think happened:

1) the email was fetched from the remote pop3 server

2) fetchmail submitted it the local exim server

3) exim rejected it because of the domain literals in this line:

Received: from (64.119.120.114 [64.119.120.114]) by MailEnable Inbound
                  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

4)fetchmail didn't delete the mail from the pop server because of the
error so back to 2) (endless loop)

No other mail was getting through so I simply configured my Mozilla mail
client to download the e-mail directly from the pop server and that
cleared that.

Everything seems to be ok now.

Did I get it right?

Is there something else I should have done or should be doing instead?

Yes I know, don't use fetchmail. But I need to be running exim because
that's what a number of my customers use so I need to be familiar with
it. Fetchmail at least allows me to work with live emails that can be
pumped through exim and spamassassin.

Thank you for your time.
