OK, by upgrade I mean I installed a fresh copy of redhat 9 whereas I was
using redhat 8 before. I had backed up my Exim Makefile from redhat 8
and checked for any changes in locations of libs and includes but they
were fine. I am using Exim 4.14. I downloaded the source of exim from
the cambridge ftp site. The OpenSSL I am using was just installed out of
the box with redhat 9.

What "upgraded from redhat 8?" What did you upgrade to?

What do you mean by "exim?" What version? Where did you get the source
code from?

SSL/TLS for Exim 4 has /*nothing*/ to do with Kerberos. I suspect you're
using someone's lousy srpms which have unnecessary dependencies..

As far as I'm concerned, on SCO OpenServer up to 5.0.6, SCO UnixWare up
to 7.1 and RH Linux 7.2 with all sorts and kinds of original Exim 3 and
4, Openssl, Openldap, Cyrus SASL, Sleepycat BDB etc source code and gcc
from 2.95 to 3.04, everything compiles "out of the box."

I hate all rpms and srpms and don't use them unless forced to. Which
sometimes I am :-)

Best,

Tony
