You can use any ASCII character in a local part if you quote it
correctly. However, / is permitted even without quotes. It is not a
"special character" for RFC 2822.
However, the default Exim configuration locks out / and a number of
other characters because they are uncommon, and are often tried by
people trying to break into systems.
