No idea, I'm afraid. I am definitely *not* an expert on the linking of
Unix programs, especially when shared libraries are involved. It's all
pretty much black magic as far as I am concerned, and there also seem to
be different shades of black on different operating systems...

Do you have symlinks for libssl and libcrypto pointing to the versioned
library files? I vaguely recall having trouble in the past when they did
not exist.
