Another option is to modify your name server installation, to report the
desired internal IP address when a host inside the DMZ asks for DNS
information on other hosts in the DMZ. See "multiple views" in BIND, for
example. This requires you to be in control of your own name servers,
obviously.

Honestly, it's probably easier to fix it in Exim, as has already been
suggested. But, the above would fix every application you might have that
depends on DNS information, not just Exim. I cannot judge the best solution
for your particular situation; I am just suggesting another alternative
solution.
