Thomas, what Paul is assuming is that you have a Red Hat Linux system,
and that you do not have the XFree86 "development" RPM package
(containing the C language header files and the linktime libraries)
installed on your system.

Since you did not mention any details about the system you were trying
to build eximon on, it was not an entirely unreasonable assumption;
however, Paul should have mentioned that he was making that assumption,
especially since this mailing list is not devoted to Red Hat Linux, or
even to Linux in general.

Providing further information about your system would help folks here
give you a more accurate, higher quality answer.
