Thanks for all your help, but I have filtering working.

I think it had something to do with starting exim -bd from /usr/bin in
rc.local

The link was to the old exim directory (/usr/local/exim/bin) which
didn't exist, but always seemed to run exim 4.05.

Now I have removed the link and replaced it with a link to /usr/exim/bin
which is version 4.12.

I cant think why (or how) exim 4.05 was still around.
