Author: Ceri Davies Date: To: exim-users Subject: [Exim] Change of behaviour between 4.10 and 4.12
I'm not sure if this is a bug report or a question, I'm afraid.
It's more of a "this behaviour is unexpectedly different" report.
I upgraded both my machine here at home and my mail hub from exim 4.10
to exim 4.12 yesterday.
I normally turn my machine off during the night (one of my fans is dying
and keeps me awake otherwise) and then issue an etrn in the morning to have
the mail pushed down from the hub (shaft.techsupport.co.uk in the log entries
below).
Since there are normally around 400 messages waiting, with exim-4.10 I'd
always see log messages of the form:
2003-01-09 10:27:36 18WZuR-00005x-00 no immediate delivery: more than 10 messages received in one connection
and the mail queue would grow because of all the messages being queued.
Today, with exim-4.12, I'm seeing this instead:
2003-01-10 09:49:16 SMTP call from shaft.techsupport.co.uk [212.250.77.214] dropped: too many nonmail commands (last was EHLO)
and the mail is being delivered straight away.
It seems that the new smtp_accept_max_nonmail option and associated actions are
causing the connection to be closed, even though the remote end isn't up to
anything vaguely sinister.
