[Exim] problems compiling exim-4.12 on freebsd 4.7 STABLE

Hi all,

has anyone also had problems compiling 4-12 on freebsd?
it just didn't want to work out for me, and exim kept dying with

"failed to open DB file /var/spool/exim/db/retry: Inappropriate file type or
format"

tried to use db4, db3, no "extra db libs" installed, nothing would work.
...until I downloaded 4-10. copied the Makefile from 4-12 to 4-10/local.
...works like a charm.

is this just me, or has anyone else expirienced this as well?
