It is there since RH 7.3 - and MDK 9 at least has it. Seems to be a
borrow from Debian.

I wouldn't want to run three or four MTAs on a single production box,
which is the primary reason for wanting /etc/alternatives - to give you
a choice of stuff like editors (or whatever) by just flipping a set of
symlinks.
This requirement is because I'm writing some stuff that involves me
flipping between lots of MTAs, and testing them / writing about them.
