The gain is that, at least for now, nobody seems to bother forging them.
Sure, it's not a permanent solution, but neither is anything else we do :-)

On my server, we stop at least a dozen spams a day using these
Hotmail/Yahoo/AOL forgery blockers, and have not yet had one false
positive (except for the new AOL "Atlas Mailer" thing discussed a couple
of weeks ago on this list).
