So your IMAP and STUNNEL are causing a problem - and that's for downloading
mail, not sending it.

It depends. Your username and password for pop3 / imap and AUTH can be
either your linux account or something you set in (say) LDAP or MySQL.
Linux account is easiest, for small setups.
