Look at /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail - the sendmail startup script.
Sendmail 8.12.x has two parts that start up - one the MSP (submitter) and
one the Daemon.
I'd suggest that you set up another initscript for Exim - grab it from the
Exim RPM perhaps.
