you mean the client-computed (received) digest was correct and the
exim-computed one incorrect ?
i am using cram-md5, have been for quite some time (though with exim3,
but i don't think that piece of code has changed), and this is the
first time i see this problem. and no cheesy idea what could be
wrong...
