[Exim] HELO with no arguments

Hi all,
we have a Transtec RAID controller which can be set up to email
alerts/warnings etc. However it sends HELO with no arguments. This results
in exim [ver 3] rejecting the message with a syntactically invalid
argument(s): (no arguments given) error message.

Is there any way round this? I appreciate that the controller is not
obeying RFC 821 but it may not be fixable.
