OpenPGP OpenPGP is a message format for exchanging cryptographic key
material and signed and/or encrypted documents. It is defined
in RFC 2440.
PGP PGP is a trademark held by various companies in the course of
history (the current trademark holder appears to be PGP
Corporation). In the beginning, "PGP" was an abbreviation of
"Pretty Good Privacy", a software package releaed by Phil
Zimmerman which implemented cryptography using a format which
became the basis for OpenPGP. The trademark "PGP" has been used
for many products, most of them involving cryptography. Some of
these products can process OpenPGP messages.
GnuPG GnuPG ("GNU Privacy Guard") is a free (libre) implementation of
the OpenPGP format. It is part of the GNU Project and released
under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
GPG "GPG" is an unofficial abbreviation of "GNU Privacy Guard". The
binary is also called "gpg".
