Man, I must be working too hard. I found my problem. I wasn't wrapping my
lines, and in my sanitizing before sending to the list I left out the
error. What I actually had was
hostlist relay_from_hosts = 127.0.0.1 : 192.168.1.0/24 \
antoher.ip.address.here
Which quite appropriately is broken.....
