Indeed. Similarly for RFC-822 the HELO parameter was required to be
syntactically valid, which though for pure RFC-822 was quite lenient, it
is not necessary to be so lenient in a pure TCP/IPv4 environment like
the real-world Internet. Eg. no underscores or other characters
disallowed in hostnames; dotted sub-domain name required; sub-domain
lengths limited to 64 chars; full length limited to 255 chars; domain
literals must be IPv4 addresses, and though many folks might require
only inet_addr(3) acceptable forms in domain literals, it wouldn't be
outrageous to require full quad dotted octets in decimal only.
