Oh, I don't count a *little* madness. That's normal... :-)

True, but we already have those. Just put your string inside \N...\N
(but there's a problem in a filter file if the string contains white
space).

What I was proposing were non-ESCAPING quotes. Given a suitable syntax,
that could be implemented easily by just not recognizing backslashes
when reading such strings.
