Eudora 5.1 does AUTH LOGIN pretty well.

Or set up and offer STARTTLS - but Eudora is pretty anal about accepting
certificates if it doesn't match the hostname / CN name properly. Other
clients (or indeed, my desktop's exim) don't seem to mind, or at most, throw
a warning.
