Who can say? You're not likely to do any damage if you're using the same
Local/Makefile as before, just with the appropriate AUTH options
uncommented.
This is why you should test the binary *before* doing the 'make install'
Run it through whatever set of tests you feel is an appropriate
representation of what your system does with mail using Exim's excellent
built-in testing options like '-bt' and '-bh' etc.
Once you're satisfied, run the 'make install', restart exim, 'tail -f' your
logs looking for abnormalities and be prepared to put the .O files that
make install saves for you back in place if something drastic goes wrong.
